How a Flight-Only Morning Works

Four simple steps to your booking.

  1. Select the flight-only option

On most listings the flight alone is the headline price. Make sure the option you select says no transport, so you are not paying for a seat in a van.

  2. Wait for the day-before message

Operators send the exact balloon port location and your arrival time the day before. Save the pin; the launch fields are not at the pyramids' entrances.

  3. Drive out before dawn

From central Mexico City the drive is roughly 45 to 60 minutes on empty pre-dawn roads, via the Mexico–Pachuca motorway and the Ecatepec–Pirámides toll road.

  4. Check in with your ID

Bring a photo ID for registration and pesos for any weight surcharge. After landing, the archaeological zone opens at 8:00.

Booking the Flight Without Transport

If you have a car or are staying in San Juan Teotihuacán, book the flight-only option on Skyteam Teotihuacán’s balloon flight. At MXN 2,500, about $137 per person on dates we checked in late October 2026, it was the lowest flight-only price among the flights we review, and it is rated 4.9 from 1,528 reviews. Skyteam sends you the balloon port location and you make your own way there before dawn. Breakfast in a natural cave can be added, which takes the price to about $181. Our review →

Who sells a flight-only option, and for how much

Most balloon listings around Teotihuacán sell the flight alone as their cheapest option, and it is usually the price you see first. Among the flights we review, flight-only options ranged from $137 to $159 per person:

ListingFlight-only price
Skyteam Teotihuacán$137 (MXN 2,500)
We Fly$143 (MXN 2,600)
Viaja Teotihuacan$148 (MXN 2,699)
Teotihuacan Adventures$148 (MXN 2,699)
Visita Teotihuacan Mexico$154 (MXN 2,799)
Tlatoani$157 (MXN 2,850)
Volare$159 (MXN 2,900)
Cielo Azteca$159 (MXN 2,899)

Two listings we have not reviewed come in lower: Vive Vuela Teotihuacan’s flight only was MXN 2,480, about $136, and a newer GetYourGuide listing, Fly Teotihuacan’s sunrise balloon ride, showed a from-price of $99 with no reviews yet. On GetYourGuide, Amigo Tours’ balloon flight also sells a no-transport option, from $148, meeting at the Balloon’s Paradise port in San Martín de las Pirámides. Among the flights we review, the gap between the lowest and highest flight-only price is about $22, so pick on what is included and where you meet.

What flight only includes, and what it does not

You get the same shared sunrise flight as the package passengers, usually 30 to 60 minutes in the air. What comes around it varies by operator:

  • Visita Teotihuacan’s flight only lists a coffee break with cookies, a flight certificate and a sparkling-wine toast, about two hours in all.
  • Viaja Teotihuacan’s flight-only option includes tea and coffee, bottled water and a sparkling-wine toast.
  • We Fly offers a complimentary coffee break at its reception on arrival.
  • Volare’s no-transport option is the exception: its listing includes a Mexican breakfast at the balloon port after the flight, plus coffee, a toast and a diploma, for about $159.
  • Skyteam’s option text says it includes only the balloon flight; the listing’s general inclusions add a flight certificate.

Flight only never includes transport, and except at Volare it does not include breakfast. The archaeological-zone ticket (MX$210 for foreign visitors in 2026) is extra, as are tips and any weight surcharge: Skyteam and Viaja Teotihuacan charge MXN 35 per kilo over 100 kg.

Getting to the balloon port before dawn

Check-in is early. We Fly’s guests arrive at reception around 5:30 a.m., and Fly Teotihuacan schedules check-in for 5:40 a.m. From central Mexico City the drive takes roughly 45 to 60 minutes on pre-dawn roads, out along the Mexico–Pachuca motorway and then the Ecatepec–Pirámides toll road. Leave a margin: one operator’s terms allow only 10 minutes’ tolerance after the appointment time.

Public transport does not work for this. The Autobuses Teotihuacan ticket window at Terminal Norte opens at 6:00, and the buses stop at the archaeological-zone gates, not at the launch fields. We could not confirm whether ride-hail cars are available at that hour, so do not count on one. Without a car, book a ride with pickup from Mexico City instead.

Staying the night near the pyramids removes the early drive. We Fly says its balloon port is about 15 minutes from hotels in Teotihuacán town and sells a hotel night for that reason. Our where to stay page lists hotels close to the launch fields.

The day-before location message and parking

Most operators do not publish an exact launch address. Viaja Teotihuacan says it is about 5 minutes from the Pemex Pirámides gas station and sends a Google Maps pin and arrival time the day before; Visita Teotihuacan and Teotihuacan Adventures also send their location a day ahead, and Visita says it appears on Google as Gran Vuelo Teotihuacan. Navigate to that pin, not to the pyramids: the launch fields are in the valley around San Martín de las Pirámides, and coordinates for “Teotihuacán” point at the Pyramid of the Sun.

For parking, Cielo Azteca says flight-only guests have a secure parking lot at the entrance of its take-off area, and We Fly’s own site offers free on-site parking. Other listings do not say, so ask when the location message arrives. Our guide to getting to the balloon port has more on the route.

After you land

The archaeological zone opens at 8:00, so a flight-only morning leaves the rest of the day free for the ruins. Bring water, a hat and sunscreen for the site, and see what to do after the flight. To compare flight only with the other tiers, see our prices page or the best balloon rides overview.
