Choosing
What Private Really Means
For a basket with nobody else in it, book Zuyuá’s private sunrise balloon for two. It is priced per group, not per person: about $1,017 for up to two people on dates we checked in late October 2026, or roughly $509 each. That covers pickup from your accommodation, breakfast, a certified guide at the pyramids and the entry tickets. It is rated 4.9 from 40 reviews. The cheaper “private” tours on Viator mostly mean a private car and guide, with a shared balloon. Our review →
Private basket or private ground tour
This is the distinction that matters. A private basket means only your party flies with the pilot. A private tour means your own driver and guide, but in the air you share a basket with other passengers.
Two packages here are private balloon flights: Zuyuá’s, and Teotihuacán Feliz’s private balloon flight. Two are private ground tours with a shared basket: Luxury Tours’ private tour and shared hot air balloon ride and Excellentravel’s balloon flight with private transport. Excellentravel says it plainly: “the balloon flight is shared in small groups, while transport and the pyramids tour are completely private.” Luxury Tours lists a private balloon as an extra cost. If the title says “private tour”, read the inclusions before you assume the basket is yours.
Zuyuá: a private basket with the pyramids included
Zuyuá’s package runs about 6.5 hours. It includes round-trip transport from Mexico City in an air-conditioned vehicle, coffee before the flight, the sunrise flight, breakfast, a certified guide at Teotihuacán, tickets, insurance and parking. Lunch is extra. One reviewer valued arriving at the pyramids before the crowds. Another, in February 2025, said nobody came at the time given the day before, after being told they had not confirmed, so reply to the confirmation message.
Because the price is per group, two people pay the same $1,017. A solo traveler pays it too, which makes it an expensive way to fly alone.
Teotihuacán Feliz: a private flight priced per person
The Teotihuacán Feliz private flight was about $476 per person, so about $952 for a couple. It includes private transport from your accommodation and breakfast, over about 6.1 hours. The title mentions “Entry”, but the listing excludes the archaeological-zone ticket, so budget MX$210 each for foreign visitors. A reviewer described a ride with just the two of them on board. It is rated 5.0 from 20 reviews, a small base.
Against Zuyuá, a couple saves about $65 but pays for their own tickets, and the listing does not mention a certified guide.
Private car and guide, shared basket
If what you want is your own guide and no waiting for other pickups, these cost far less for two. Luxury Tours was about $360 per person and includes an SUV or minivan from “your hotel or house”, a guided visit to the pyramids, zone tickets, breakfast and drinks. Two reviewers celebrated wedding anniversaries on it. Our review →
Excellentravel’s private option was about $357 per person, with lobby pickup, breakfast at a local restaurant and about 2 hours 30 minutes at the ruins with a guide the listing says is certified by SECTUR. You are back at about 1:00 p.m. Our review →
Proposals, anniversaries and couples
None of the private listings here describes a proposal package, decorations or a set routine for celebrations. If you plan to propose in the basket, message the operator through the booking before you pay and ask what they can arrange. Only a private basket guarantees the moment is yours: on a shared flight you will have company. Weight rules still apply, and whether you pass over the pyramids still depends on the wind.
Who each option suits
Zuyuá suits a couple who want the whole morning to themselves, in the air and on the ground, and are happy to pay for it. Teotihuacán Feliz suits a couple who want a private basket and will walk the ruins without a guide or hire one there. Luxury Tours suits families: its listing lists infant seats and says the balloon flight is open from 4 years of age. Excellentravel suits travelers who mainly want a dependable private driver and a well-paced guided visit, and do not mind sharing the basket; its listing asks for a moderate level of fitness.
For a solo traveler, a private basket costs the same as for two, so a private car and guide with a shared balloon is the better value. For a group larger than two, Zuyuá’s listing is priced for up to two people, so ask the operator about larger groups before booking.
Whichever you pick, ask about the AFAC permit, the pilot’s licence and insurance; our safety guide explains what to check. For the wider trade-offs, read shared vs private balloon rides, and to compare by price, see Teotihuacán balloon ride prices. Every flight is ranked on the best Teotihuacán balloon rides.
